The Mesiac Fotografie (Month of Photography) in Bratislava is an event I eagerly look forward to every November. I’ve been attending since 1996, when I had the incredible privilege of meeting Slovak photographer Tono Stano in person. That encounter with one of the masters of contemporary photography deeply influenced my relationship with the art and sparked my love for this extraordinary festival.

Each edition of Mesiac Fotografie is a journey through photography in all its forms, and the quality of the exhibitions is simply outstanding. The curation is exceptional, with exhibitions that surprise, move, and inspire. Every year, the festival brings some of the world’s biggest names, alongside emerging talents, with a special focus on artists from Central and Eastern Europe. I’ve seen works that explore profound themes, images that tell powerful stories, and experimental projects that push the boundaries of traditional photography.

What makes the festival even more fascinating is its spread across various locations in the city center, from modern art galleries to historical spaces, creating a unique atmosphere. Walking through Bratislava in November, feeling the crisp air, and discovering these photographic gems in hidden galleries or ancient buildings is truly magical. Each exhibition space adds a particular context to the works, enhancing their impact.

For me, Mesiac Fotografie is much more than just an event: it’s a moment to connect with photography, meet extraordinary artists, and immerse myself in a world of images that tell stories, provoke thought, and inspire dreams. The festival always manages to renew itself while staying true to its mission of celebrating photography in all its forms.

If you’re in Bratislava in November, you absolutely can’t miss it. It’s an experience that not only stimulates the mind and heart but also allows you to discover the city in a new way, through the stories and visions each exhibition brings. For me, Mesiac Fotografie is a tradition and an endless source of inspiration. I can’t wait to return year after year!

Beautiful. Worth to go to Bratislava for the festival of photography. I heard the new politicians have cut so many funds, its so sad.

Galéria sa nachádza na poschodí a zaberá jedno podlažie. Rozlohou nie je veľká ale pôsobí útulne a rád sem chodievam, keďže ide o také epicentrum fotografie v Bratislave.
Súčasťou galérie je aj bohato zásobený obchodík so zaujímavými knihami o fotografii. Ak máte radi fotografiu určite sa sem oplatí vždy zájsť.

Gallery in located on the the first floor. It is not huge but rather cozy and intimate which I like a lot. I nick named it "epicentre" of photography in Bratislava.
There is a small but well stocked shop with many interesting books related to photography.
If you are a "lens addict" this is a must see place for you.

Main teaser was Iranian photographer whose poster we saw outside. Inside there was nothing as they removed pics already. Why they kept poster outside is a mystery to me. Gallery was open but noone on the 2nd floor and place was in dark. Lady sitting on the 1st floor sold us entrance tickets and introduced us to few photographs of some French guy.
Karol Plicka’s pictures were in the separate drawers, difficult to reach, not well maintained. For 5euros a person there is nothing to really see and more of a rip off. Not sure who takes care of the place but it is not great job done. Disappointing.

The gallery space is quite small but the photo books for sale were worth the visit (so many talented photographers). The older woman who runs the space was very nice and pleasant.
